PLANNING AND ZONING Comprehensive Planning Index #062000
ORIGIN/PURPOSE: The Comprehensive Planning Division is primarily responsible for preparing long-range plans guiding the physical growth of the County. This process requires substantial public outreach along with research, data collection, and analysis regarding land use patterns, demographics, and economic trends. Planners in this division have knowledge in a broad range of disciplines. These include environmental planning, community planning, transportation planning, and agricultural and historical preservation. Their expertise supports various planning projects in the County, such as the Transportation Management Program, the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Program, Coastal Zone Management Program, and the Agricultural Land Preservation Program. This Comprehensive Planning Division is also responsible for managing studies and grants. Additionally, the division is staffed by several Geographic Information System specialists and data analysts who provide informational reports and mapping services to all County departments and agencies.
