PARKS AND RECREATION Parks and Facilities Cost Center 595000
ORIGIN / PURPOSE: The Division of Parks and Facilities includes two (2) operating groups - Capital Planning and Development and Grounds Maintenance. Capital Planning and Development is responsible for park land acquisition and development projects at park sites, school sites, and in the incorporated municipalities. The group also manages the preparation and update of the Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan. Interaction and coordination with other county and state agencies, incorporated municipalities, as well as staff, volunteers, and the public is a major function of the acquisition and development process. Grounds Maintenance is charged with the continuous task of keeping all park sites safe, usable and appealing. In accordance with a Joint Use Agreement with Harford County Public Schools, this group also maintains bleachers, tennis courts, infields of baseball/softball diamonds, and athletic fields (soccer/lacrosse/football) at schools. It coordinates the collection and removal of recyclable and non-recyclable trash from park facilities and schools, and works with other agencies to remove snow from county roads as well as park sites. FY 25 GOALS: TO MAINTAIN, IMPROVE AND DEVELOP SAFE AND SECURE DEPARTMENT FACILITIES, PARK SITES AND GREENWAYS/TRAILS TO PROVIDE EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE TO ACQUIRE ADDITIONAL RECREATION LAND THROUGH PROGRAM OPEN SPACE FUNDING TO HELP MEET THE NEEDS OF CURRENT AND FUTURE RESIDENTS TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCIES WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT WHILE INSURING THAT SERVICES ARE NOT REDUCED TO DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN EFFICIENT LEVELS OF FISCAL OVERSIGHT TO IDENTIFY, INCREASE AND ENCOURAGE TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STAFF
