CONSERVATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES Extension Services Cost Center 631000
ORIGIN & PURPOSE : Established by the Federal Hatch Act ( 1987 ) and the Smith - Lever Act ( 1887 ), the University of Maryland , Harford County O ffi ce provides educational outreach education from the University of Maryland , College Park as part of their three - fold mission as a land grant institution which provides teaching , research and educational outreach . The University of Maryland Extension in Harford County provides educational programs based on the needs of county residents . Emphasis is placed on the following program areas : Agriculture and Food Systems , Environment and Natural Resources , Family and Consumer Science and 4 - H Youth Development . Extension is funded through county , state and federal dollars . Grants and donations fund special projects as warranted . The budget is developed by the fi scal o ffi ce of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in consultation with the Assistant Director of Operations and leadership from the University of Maryland Harford O ffi ce .
