B.G.S Jourdan and Sons est. 1907 - Darlington, MD Current Owners: Scott Jourdan Reeves and Nicole Sanzone Reeves Original Purchaser: Martha J. Jourdan and her son Bernard Gilpin Smith (B.G.S.) Jourdan Current Acreage: 164 Current Agricultural Products or Services: corn and soybeans Preserved In 1890 C. Reed Jourdan established a tomato cannery. In 1908, his son B.G.S. joined his father in the business. In 1914, the cannery was moved to its present location the Stafford Road Farm. The cannery was an extension of the farming business. Many acres of tomatoes were grown on the farm property. In 1955, the cannery burned down and was rebuilt. The last year of operation was 1999. When the cannery closed it was the last tomato packing facility in Harford County.
